Incredible Restaurant and Incredible Meal-ABC WEDNESDAY "I"

Last week we drove to Taos and stopped at one of our favorite family restaurants in Ranchos de Taos. It is a favorite of the natives, and if a tourist is lucky, someone will tell them about the place.   Here is a copy of the review I sent to Trip Advisor:

Whenever we are in Santa Fe we make sure that we drive to Ranchos de Taos to eat at this restaurant because it serves the most authentic and delicious Mexican food we have eaten anywhere in the states! Today we started with salsa and guacamole, using their large homemade chips to scoop. My husband had two enchiladas that he polished off quite nicely and I had a combination plate of chile relleno and cheese enchilada. I seldom order rellenos in restaurants because I am usually disappointed, but not here. My meal was fantastic. The portions are enormous and definitely worth the money!! The sopaipillas are very large and very delicious--a perfect way to end an outstanding meal. The waitstaff remain the same over the past years, and they are friendly and efficient. The paintings and murals complete the warm ambience. Kudos all around!!"

I had the plate on the left with chile relleno and cheese enchilada but DH ordered two enchiladas, the plate on the right.  We ended the meal with huge soppapillas and honey.  .  . food "to die for."

Notice the sign above has the image of the famous church I posted earlier.
Yesterday I posted one of the murals that is on one of the wall.

  2. Got to admit, it looks good enough to eat. Back years ago when we lived in Phoenix, I took a trip into the Mexican interior. One of my big surprises was that the "real" Mexican food was not nearly as spicy as what we got at home. Wish we had a place like this in Ocala.

  3. This looks like the type of restaurant my wife would love. Mexican food seems to have penetrated American cuisine much more now than when I was a child. Julie was exposed to it a lot in her childhood in Arizona. My family never had Mexican food when I was growing up in Hawaii and St. Louis.

Now, whenever we travel the first meal we have when we return home is to pick up carryout from our favorite Mexican restaurant in Scottsdale.

  5. Oh wow, this looks simply scrumptious! I know exactly what you mean about chili rellenos, it really is hard find a good one at a restaurant and the one on your plate looks excellent!

  6. Good to know where to get the best food. I have often been less than happy with some of the Mexican restaurants I have tried. It's always a pleasure when I find a good one.

  7. As I wrote on Facebook, now I am truly hungry for GOOD Mexican food.
When I don't know what I want to eat it is usually Mexican that wins.

  9. It looks great...and I'm filled with longing. I haven't found a good chile rellano since I've been in Washington state, and it's one of my favorites. Both of your meals look delish..AND you had room for sopaipillas? Bravo!

  19. This is making me salivate! Chile relleno is my favorite too! Nothing beats good Mexican food, especially the real stuff they serve in New Mexico. Arizona is good, Texas is mediocre, and New Mexico is the best!
