Scottish Rite Temple
Scottish Rite Temple
Is this typical Santa Fe?
Not by a long-shot!
Ever since I first set foot in Santa Fe in the'80's, I have been intrigued by this building, so very different in style and color from the the rest of the architecture here. There must be a story behind this, and I intend to find out! If you are interesting in its history, click here.

I love those adobe buildings and the colours of them.
ReplyDeleteIt is a bit moorish in design...but I am thinking the color would blend in there.
ReplyDeleteThe first image almost looks like a fortification from the middle ages, except the color. A very interesting building.

I can't wait to hear the story. It's the right color just not the right design.
ReplyDeleteI like the design and color of the building. The style could have came from Spain, perhaps?
ReplyDeleteDown through the years I've had good friends who were Masons...I don't know if they were of the Scottish Rite or not, though. Attending some of their "services," I was surprised at how "religious" they were and how they had borrowed elements of liturgy from Christian services. It is not surprising this is called a "cathedral" or "temple." I think there is less and less interest in Masonry, though.
ReplyDeleteRather unusual, Kate!
ReplyDeleteIt looks a tad too rosy coloured, not the terra-cotta shade I usually associate with New Mexico. It's an attractive building though. Now I need to Google Scottish Rite since I have no idea what that is. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely correct; it is a bright rosy color that makes it stand out but not in a positive way that coordinates with the adobe colors.
DeleteI guess I am not a fan either of the architecture or the dusty rose color. Then again, I was not consulted when it was built, so it is not my fault.
ReplyDeleteThere is a very nice theatre in there.
ReplyDeleteI hope that you will let us in on any secrets you learn!
