These two murals are painted on the dining room walls of the Ranchos Plaza Grill in Ranchos de Taos.
If you like AUTHENTIC Mexican food, take a ride north of Santa Fe, view spectacular scenery on the High Road to Taos and stop in this cafe for a delicious meal.
I like Tex-Mex. When we lived in Phoenix I took a trip with some friends deep into Mexico. One of the big surprises was the relative blandness of "authentic" Mexican food. I thought it would be much "hotter."
ReplyDeleteEarly Sunday and I haven't even made coffee yet, but I've "met" a new artist already, thanks to you. Love that first mural. Thank you, Kate.
ReplyDeleteThe first mural looks like the work of Carmen Lomas Garza. Do you know if it is? LOVELY, lovely!
ReplyDeleteOk, I'm leaving right now. See you in 5 days!
ReplyDeleteI guess you already know I love everything related to Mexico and, of course, I would stop there if I could.
ReplyDeleteDang...I now simply gotta find a reason to come to SF this spring!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It is nice to have someone recommend a place with good food. It looks lovely inside too! We will remember the next time we go that way.
ReplyDeleteThis would be a great spot for a bloggers meet up by the sound of it Kate.. I'm in!!
ReplyDeleteI love the look of this resto. The murals and the carved chairs give it a cosy feel.
ReplyDeleteNow there is some good advice. This looks like a good spot for great food.
ReplyDeleteKate, I've been busy the last two days training docents so I missed you problem's on the link I sent. No worries. I sent it to a friend who had similar troubles and I don't know what causes it. The city has the link on their site too. I'll try to find that link and send it to you. Maybe it will work better from their site.
If you go to Taos again you have to try The Gorge on the plaza. The food is so tasty. I will have to try this place.
ReplyDeleteThis is waaaayyyyy more picturesque than the Taco Bus!!! Santa Fe and Taos are definitely destinations on my bucket list, and now I know a beautiful place to dine.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you're hitting some great spots and this certainly sounds like one of them. A feast for the eyes and the palate.
ReplyDeleteohhh you are making me hungry! mexican is my favorite, being originally from san diego, i'm a bit snooty about the mexican food out here (virginia)...love the colorful murals!
ReplyDeleteBeautful murals.I viewed them using Google Reader in full frame. Alot going on in your fist pic. A few of those Tamales in the blue pot would sure taste good about now! I need to see who the Patron Saint of Kitchens is. I believe he may be standing on the table by the candle and the book. Senor George Chacon has cleverly signed his 1995 mural "La Cocinera" on the front of the book.
ReplyDeleteOur Lady of Guadalupe is also well done adorned in her many colors.
As you said, I bet the food is 'muy sabroso' !
i love the drive on the high road to Taos. it is a fabulous way to enjoy the area
ReplyDeleteyou caught me right when Im hungry. I think I need to order something from my local taqueria.
ReplyDeleteYou're not letting any moss grow on you out there in New Mexico, are you? This does look like a good place to eat.
ReplyDeleteSome kind of Frida feeling about these wall paintings! Nice!!
ReplyDeleteThe murals create a lovely atmosphere for dining.
ReplyDeleteI will be sure to stop here. I really love the colors and the art of these murals. This art would definitely add to the experience of eating Mexican food. I'm embarrassed to say it- but I still haven't made it out to Santa Fe. One day!=)
ReplyDeleteI love colorful murals!
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I'll have to try this place sometime. Love that top painting. Love how San Pasqual is perched there w/ his cooking spoon! :)
