Camera Critters--Not a lot of bull!

Have you ever been followed around like a dog by a creature of this size?  This big guy wandered freely around the grounds and parking lot of the Sanctuario de Chimayo...a startling sight to our dog Maggi, who despite their differences in size this strange creature still aroused her curiosity.  The steer ignored all of us, occasionally staring us balefully in the eyes.  I was a little worried about our dog, but we all made it back to the safety of our car.

  2. He looks cool ... I'd feel uneasy being close to this big fella.

  3. Great shot Kate. Love the eyelashes. Such interesting animals. On the farm our dog Elvis chases the cattle from time to time, well that is until one of them turned on him and Elvis came out second best!

  4. When I was a little kid visiting my grandmother on her farm in Cook, Minnesota I'd regularly get chased out of the barnyard by a big red bull who meant business...several times I ran for me life, if'n you know what I mean...

This guy looks just menacing enough to bring back those scary memories so I'm glad everyone made it to the car safely!

  5. I love this lady! Lucky your dog didn't want to play - I think that's what mine would have wanted!

  6. It must be pretty tame if they let it run around loose with people. I really dose look docile.

  7. This would make one want to climb into the minds of the dog and cow to learn what they were thinking. Except you probably already knew exactly what your dog was thinking.

  10. What a handsome fellow! I would definitely follow his lead and if he said "Get out!" I would do so. Glad to hear he was being hospitable. ;-)

I'm visiting from the Camera Critters meme. You can follow my link from that page.

  11. Great shot! You captured his face beautifully! I encountered cows on a trail once and found even docile cows a little scarey (I was more of a city kid on those days). Steer? I'd definitely have second thoughts, even if he appeared to ignore us. Glad Maggi kept her distance, too.

  12. I remember a day on a Vermont farm being chased by a bull like this. Half scary and half hilarious.

  13. I don't think dogs know how big or small they are in relation to other creatures. I'm surprised the bull is allowed to wander freely.
