Tapestry Weaving

Both Lynne and her husband are artists living in Eldorado, NM. I visited the art gallery  in La Tienda Shopping Center and was able to chat with both of them.  The ceramic mask was created by her husband, Bob,  but Lynne did the weaving  on the art piece.  Soon she is giving a two-month-long class on weaving, and altho the class is full, she invited me to visit, to watch, and to take some photos.

I do believe that I will buy this piece before I leave New Mexico or one of the others I showed you here.

  1. I'd stay out of the sun, Kate - it's doing you no good at all....

  2. That is a nice collaboration of two artists working together in different mediums on the same pieces.

This reminds me of a story about Howard Cook, the Taos artist who I recommended to you in a comment a few days ago. His wife was Barbara Latham, also an artist. When Cook had a Guggenheim Fellowship to create art in Mexico in the 1930's they would at times ask local families if Latham could sketch or paint one of their children, when it was Cook who wanted to do a sketch or painting.

The family would select the most beautiful daughter to be the model for Latham. Then they would ask for another child, saying that as long as Cook was there, he might as well do some art also. He would then be able to sketch or paint a more typical or ordinary looking child, which was their intention.

  3. You do have the touch! What a personable lady you are. Walk into a gallery, camera in hand, and the next thing we see are up close pics of the artists along with invites for lessons and more photos!

  5. Very beautiful. And I think you're lucky to be able to sit in on Lynne's weaving class! It's probably a good thing you have a large house in St. Paul, or DH would have to build you another one to keep all of your treasures! :-)

  6. When you buy/acquire art part of the joy is knowing the story and the artist. How wonderful that you have gotten to know them.

  9. Shoot that's a great piece Kate! If I could buy it- I would. And the piece seems so much more meaningful with a picture of one of the artists next to it. Great shot! =)

  10. I agree with the other comments -- how nice to meet the artists and have their pictures. But oh, I'd find it hard to decide on exactly which piece I'd buy, though I envy your "having" to choose! I hope you have a chance to visit the weaving class. Do they spin, too?

  14. Very nice image, Kate. When you know something about how a work of art was made and by whom, that means so much more every time you cast an eye on it. Go get it!
