There is a large open field that is next to La Tienda Shopping Center in Eldorado, NM that has quite a number of these wooden figures facing the parking lot.  No one seemed to be able to tell me why they were there.  Initially it is a bit startling, but I found the entire set-up pretty amusing.  Not exactly PC, but I enjoy the view... guess "the Indians are coming!"

ADDED LATER: A new acquaintance sent the following information to me, which is a
background information on the installation of these cut-outs.  Worth a look!

  2. First reaction was that we were looking at a wild west movie until I read they were wooden figures.

  3. Good morning, Ms. Mura. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, involves identifying the origin and artist of the pieces in question. As always, should any member of your team be caught or killed, the Secretary will disavow all knowledge of your actions. This message will self-destruct in five seconds.

  4. I think I would be startled at first glance! But then I'd think it's quite neat!

  5. Very clever. Very Santa Fe.

I did not get to your site yesterday, so I just now left a comment with a recommendation about prints on your post from yesterday. I hope you circle back to check it, as I think you might enjoy a print dealer's gallery in Santa Fe who I have recommended.

  6. I bet kids like it, it certainly is a conversation starter. Maybe I should get a picture of the cowboys and cattle sculpture in Dallas.

  7. I really like it!!! We've got cattle sculptures in Kansas City too. But as usual, NM art simply the best...

  8. Now this is a great find! An unknown artist, at this time, has put alot of time into these works!

  9. They sure as hell would startle me! Perhaps, though, they're heading into town to do some trading. Or to take some scalps from the bums who are destroying their way of life?

Quite realistic. It would be interesting to know who did this and for what purpose...

You seem to be having a great time in New Mexico!

  11. These seem to be very well done; a unique piece of public art. It looks like you're coming along fine with getting to know your new camera.

  12. Great photos Kate. I prefer how "indians" dressed back then. It's much more impressive than what we wear now. And they were basically camping.=)

  14. They were put up during the last studio tour. I got a few shots but none as good as these. I am surprised no one there could tell you about it.

  15. Terrific, Kate. It certainly would catch the eyes of the people who shop here. I love them.

  16. These shots are great. What an interesting deco for shopping center. Maybe the developer wants to keep potential buyers away from the adjoining lot!

    Darryl and Ruth :)

  17. At first I thought it was a painting, as they all look so flat. Quite an interesting idea. I bet it took someone quite some time to make all of those figures.

  18. Too funny! Someone put a lot of work in to that project!

  19. This is wonderful! I really like it, especially since it is so startling. While looking at these guys, I can really imagine what it must have felt like to encounter people so wholly different from myself and how intimidating it would be.
