Headresses

Magnificient headdresses on the people of
Kyrgyzstan

Several days ago one person asked how all these artists could afford to attend this market and here is my reply: I pulled out my publication on the event and found two pages of individual Donors: World, Continent, Country, Region, Village, and Community. In addition here are more facts about the event: 1,500 volunteers make this event happen in Santa Fe and over the ten years--the market has involved 650 artists from 80 countries across six continents,  1 million lives worldwide have been positively affected, more than $16 million in artists' sales, most artists earn at the market 10x what they might earn in one year in their own country and 90% of the sales have gone home with the artists and their organizations to improve livelihoods across the globe. It's an unforgettable event. Crowded but worth the experience; lots of wonderful merchandise to buy!

  1. Thanks Kate...now I understand. Must be a very interesting fair. I tire of the ones here with the same old things. International crafts and arts without me having to travel.....and them wearing costume is a real bonus!

  2. That is one gorgeous headress in the photo on top. And sooooo white! I would fear getting it dirty if I wore it.

  3. This really is a wonderful event for so many reasons hey Kate.. It sounds to me like a win win situation, the people of the world have an influx of much needed funds and the people of Santa Fe and neighbours are enriched by the experience..it's all good :)

  13. Excellent portrait view of the matron with the beaded headdress. I detect a faint smile coming from the corners of her lips with a hint of a twinkle in her knowing eyes! Sweet photo!

  17. Those are some mighty impressive figures (the kinds that get donors to say, "I'll buy into that!"). And I love the headdress at the top. No bad hair days if you can wear that.
