Kiva Art Gallery

Gini, a new friend who knows a great deal about Native American culture and history, is a volunteer at one of the wonderful museums in Santa Fe. In addition, she works two days a week at the Kiva Gallery in downtown Santa Fe on Water Street. The gallery has an  outstanding collection of authentic Native American art and has been  owned and operated for 22 years by the woman pictured below.

  1. I don't know much about Native American dresses, but this looks elaborate and beautiful.

  2. This is an outstanding and quite beautiful dress, beaded, and bells. I wonder who it once belonged to?

Can you imagine how the Native Americans must have felt when they were engaged in a losing battle for their land, the buffalo and themselves? I shudder at the thought.

I would say, for the Native Americans, the people who came over here and slaughtered them, and the wildlife, and ruined the land, those people were terrorists.

You said, on my blog, you wondered why people can't get along and have wars? I really don't know the answer to that but I can imagine the Native Americans fought to preserve their way of life and to attempt to save the wildlife and the forests and themselves. The people who came here came to steal the land and in the beginning they called it Religious Freedom. That is an oxymoron.

  4. Beautiful example of what they have in the gallery. That tunic is certainly a work of art.
