While touring the Sand Dunes National Monument near Alamagordo, NM we stopped to watch small children slide down the sand dunes which you see in the background. Asking permission to take their photos we talked to their mothers. Debbie who is holding her little boy is an Air Force wife whose husband is stationed at Holloman Air Force base. After 3 years she claims that she is "getting used to desert life" but it's a far cry from her home in Minot, North Dakota. Her friend Jennie, a pastor's wife, on her left is visiting Debbie from her home in Minot. It seemed like a great union for the two women and their children who played happily on the dunes as we talked. The little guy didn't have too much to say for himself!

deux beaux sourires pour commencer la journee, c'est sympathique, et j'aimerais faire de la luge comme ces enfants
ReplyDeleteSliding down looks like fun. Minot to NM, thats a big change. When I was in the AF they used to say why not minot? Nobody wanted to go there.
ReplyDeleteTheir wardrobe choices really paid off for this portrait - the white shirts with the sand dune background - and then, GOLD! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI remember climbing those sand dunes many ears ago. I think it's easier to walk in snow. :)
ReplyDeleteThe kids appear to be having a wonderful time.
Great photos and info.
ReplyDeleteA very nice portrait, Kate!
ReplyDeleteMommies and children, making fun memories together!
ReplyDeletethat's really cool. and what a difference from minot prairie! (and flooding!)
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I believe I'd rather be in the desert than where it is so cold most of the time!
ReplyDeleteNow that is how I wish I was spending the day. Great shots.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! Kids can have hours and hours of fun playing on the dunes. My husband and I put our our lawn chairs and snacks and had a great time watching all the action.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures that bring back some fun memories.
I have done sand dune sledding before and it's tons of fun!
ReplyDeleteLooks like great fun Kate, I might just have had to have a go at that! Beautiful group shot.
ReplyDeleteEverybody seems to be happy but those dudes on the dunes seem to be having the most fun! Nice shots!
ReplyDeleteNice photos and it looks like a fun day. That white, white sand is dazzling!
ReplyDeleteThe two women could pass as sisters. Great portrait, Kate.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun and what a beautiful portrait on top!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful captures Kate. It must have been fun to watch the children sliding down the dunes. Such freedom and fun!
