Neighborhood Terrain

I have no rational explanation nor can I explain why, but I really love this photo, which is an image I often see when DH and I are out walking in the neighborhood.  Perhaps it's because it is such a typical scene right now in New Mexico.  Not enough snow to relieve the drought, but the landscape is very arresting in its color and texture.

  1. It looks quite surreal, Kate. Maybe it is the curves that go a way to explaining its appeal. I like the waves of snow, yet the straight arid grasses.

  2. Love the shot also Kate. Great perspective and very different and contrasting aspects of the landscape.

  3. I'm testing my own blog to see if those ridiculous verification words are on here because I find them less than helpful. They're discriminatory for anyone with glasses or a hearing deficit.

  4. I like the way the wavy line of snow leads the eye into the picture. It's a very southwestern scene. Maybe more snow is on it's way. We have heavy clouds today and the air smells fresh and wet.
    No V words here, Kate!

  6. Can't wait for the NEWS that because of little snow our water tables will be way down.

  8. Nicely composed. Spring beginning to usher out winter.

  9. Is it snow? But how could it be in New Mexico?
This photo is so reach in texture and colors and shapes. And snow.
Thank you so much for your comments, you are so generous.

  10. This photo says "high desert." I can almost feel and taste it. What a great spot to walk!

  11. So beautiful! The start contrast of sand, associated with immense heat and humidity and the broken snow line in the middle. Nature has their own way of framing for close-ups!

  13. It's a very southwestern scene and it reminds you that you are not in cold, snowy St. Paul anymore. No wonder you like it!

  16. It just seems so strange Kate, to see that little patch of snow and the surrounding area looks so dry and parched! Fascinating.

  17. The grasses and weeds are so lovely, not beaten down like most of the grasses here right now.
